Education in the Division of Biology and Biological Engineering (BBE) intertwines with research. Undergraduate and graduate students collaborate closely with one another as well as with faculty who are internationally recognized leaders in their fields.
Undergraduate students can pursue either the biology or the bioengineering option—an option is Caltech's version of a major—which prepares students for continued study in the field of biology or medicine.
Graduate students in BBE can choose one of four division-based options: biology, biochemistry and molecular biophysics, bioengineering, and neurobiology. Two interdisciplinary graduate programs in geobiology and computation and neural systems also have biological components, but are administered by the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences and the Division of Engineering and Applied Science, respectively.
