ALL Sections must be completed on Visitor Application before submitting to division for processing.
Visitor to complete the following sections: Candidate Info, Professional Exp and Positions Held.
Faculty to complete the following sections: Dept Info, Appt Info, Research Statement and Sign.
Visitor Application must be signed by Sponsor.
Email completed and signed visitor application with CV to the divisional office at least a month in advance, two or more months if foreign national.
REAPPOINTMENT PROCESS: Division will send a renewal request 3 months before expiration; foreign national visitors appointments are started 6 months before expiration.
Email response required for reappointing visitor appointments.

VISITOR GUIDELINES:
Visitors are appointed for limited terms up to one year. They may be full-time or part-time, paid or unpaid, but they must have a position elsewhere. Visitors are not members of the faculty. They are entitled to a "visitor" identification card for access to campus facilities, and listing in the campus directory, and are not eligible for membership in the Athenaeum.
Visitors are not considered to be members of the faculty. This position must not be considered a pathway to permanent employment. An appointment must be proposed by an active professorial faculty sponsor/host. The sponsor/host is responsible for making the appointee's visit to the Institute mutually beneficial and interacting with the appointee through regular on-campus meetings and communications. Appointee must clearly understand the voluntary and/or temporary nature of their Caltech affiliation and have a position elsewhere. NOTE: Appointees are not permitted to be principal investigators or co-investigators on sponsored research grants and contracts. If an international visitor requires a J1 visa, their salary must be above $48,000 annually or host will need to supplement to bring their salary up to $48,000 annually (for J1 visa purposes only).
Health insurance coverage is required. If visitor will be paid a minimum of $1,000/mo from Caltech funds, he/she is eligible for staff benefits. If visitor will be funded by an outside agency, make sure to add information to the application.
Appointment proposals are not presented to the IACC for information or approval.
