Support BBE

The biological sciences are in a period of accelerated discovery, propelled largely by the integration of fundamental biological principles with engineering, computation, and other distinct scientific disciplines. As a result, over the next generation we can expect to achieve a deeper understanding of the evolution, development, and mechanics of living systems. Researchers in BBE strive to answer some of the most challenging questions about the origins and mechanisms of living systems and disease, how our brains work, and how biological systems and molecules are regulated in disease and health.

These developments have the potential to effect dramatic improvements in therapies and treatments to combat complex diseases like cancer, HIV, autism, and Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Much of this work is being pursued at the interface of many scientific disciplines in which Caltech excels including biology, chemistry, engineering, applied physics, and computer science. This work will lead to insights that further shape our understanding of living systems and enable effective treatments for disease to benefit humanity.

Investment in people, programs, and infrastructure will be critical to ensure BBE continues to play a leadership role in these investigations and in furthering game-changing discoveries. Direct support to BBE impacts researchers and students in meaningful ways, allowing the freedom necessary to pursue unique research that has significant implications for science and humanity's future.
